In time
I went to the movies last night. I often enjoy a good flick. We choose to see the move ‘In time’. As movies go I thought it was a good one, would give it 7/10. As you plod through life you find that God speaks through many different ways. I felt challenged by a few things after the movie.
Without giving too much away, the movie is set in the future and the currency people use is time. The people have a digital clock in their arm and they spend the time they have left in life. For example a coffee would cost 4 minutes, a long bus ride a few hours.
This got me thinking how precious time is. Time is short. Our clock is ticking down. How do we spend it?
Ecclesiastes 3:1 says there is a time for everything, a season for every activity under the sun.
A friend recently challenged me with how I am spending my work time. Am I effective? I wrote down everything that I do and was a little shocked. You see we can be busy but not effective. There are things that need to be done and other stuff that’s had its season. There are jobs that others can do. The challenge is managing our time well, picking up what we need to and leaving what we don’t.
The other challenge is our spare time, do we sit in front of the TV all day, are we glued to the games console for hours upon end or whatever takes a lot of our time. Is this affecting our relationships with family and loved ones. If we are not careful we could neglect the ones we love.
Psalm 31:15 says that our time is in Gods hands. Only God knows when we are going to snuff it. Lets live with purpose and make a positive difference in the world.
And finally Hosea 10:12 says that it is time to seek the Lord until He comes. For those that believe in Christ, the challenge is to make sure that we spend time seeking God. We believe that we have a relationship with God, well this is an active word, relationships take time. Are we giving that time?
