Little Dreamer
I don’t know about you, but I am the type of person full of new ideas. Here in our house we have named me little dreamer, as I am always planning and trying to imagine the next fun project or stage in life we can go into. What the world may call an entrepreneurial mind, sometimes for me all these ideas and plans for the future can create a frustrated and unsatisfied heart, which is not good. So, often I need to let God put my heart in the right perspective again.
One of Jesus’ lines when he taught us how to pray was ‘Give us today our daily bread’ (Mat 6:11), because he knew of the importance of asking God to fulfil our needs. We, humans, can be quite complicated ones. We do need food to survive, but to live life in its fullness we need much more than caring for our physical needs. And Jesus living as one of us knew that. When we pray for God to give us our daily bread we are asking for much more than food, we are asking God to take care of all our needs: spiritual, emotional and physical.
As well as taking care of our bodies we need to take care of our souls, we do have spiritual needs. Jesus said that “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Mat 4:4). Our time and connection with God is not just a way for us to feel good, but is an important tie that we make with our Creator. It is how we know to whom we belong and to where we are going. The Bible is our spiritual food to feed our soul with the culture and mindset of a kingdom that sometimes we forget we are part of.
And then, we have our emotions. My husband says that the difference between vision and reality is frustration. When our lives seem in a place so different to what we had in mind, it can bring such a sense of defeat and failing, but this is not how God wants us to live. The Bible tells us that “where there is no vision, the people perish” (Pro 29:18), and I am so grateful for the many ways God uses to talk to us about his plans and dreams for our lives. To use us and to bring the vision into reality. And in times where I feel I am living far away from the plans God has for me, He comes with love bringing me reminders of His big plan and changing the feelings that pop in my heart.
During one of those frustrated moments God brought me this bible verse: “Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for God has already approved what you do” (Ecc 9:7). The truth is that God has already fulfilled many of my needs, of all kinds, and I am so grateful. I don’t want to take this for granted. As Jesus taught us, I will continue to ask Him to give me my daily bread, so I can live this life with a joyful heart knowing that God will fulfil the vision He has put in my heart.
